Asia - TACHARD (Guy). Second voyage du père Tachard et des jesuites envoyés par le Roy au Royaume de Siam. Contenant diverses remarques d'histoire, de physique, de géographie, & d'astronomie. Paris, Horthemels, 1689. In-4, granite calf, ornate ribbed spine, gilt roulette on the edges (period binding).
The illustration consists of a title vignette, a header vignette, a lettrine and 6 fold-out hors-texte.
First edition. Father Tachard (1651-1712), a Jesuit missionary, made two trips to Siam, the first in 1685-1686, and the second in 1687-1689. His two accounts are important for our knowledge of the kingdom of Siam at the dawn of the 18th century.
Minor wear and restoration to binding. Remnants of glued paper on title page with losses to text and engraving, and a few minor interior blemishes otherwise a very good copy.
